THE VILLA PELLET IN KEMPTENHAUSEN,
first place of Richard Wagner in Bavaria
upon his arrival in Ludwig’s II. Kingdom
One of the first actions of King Louis II of Bavaria was to have Richard Wagner searched. He had him brought to Bavaria and first installed him in the Pellet House (Villa Pellet) on the banks of the Starnbergersee, not far from his castle of Berg.
In September 1864, the King invited him to come and live in Munich in a house which he placed at his disposal.
Here is the villa and the castle in woodcuts that show them in the state of that time. Note that the villa had a park of 17 Tagwerk (1 Tagwerk= 3408 m2), which corresponds to about 5.8 hectares.
